Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) married Lady Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), at that time he was in the state of Ihram. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) married Lady Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), he was in the state of Ihram, by this he means: he was within the boundaries of the Haram. This does not mean that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was actually wearing the Ihram at that time. Just as the Arabs use this word in their idiom, so when a person enters the boundaries of Najd, they use the word that he has entered Najd; when a person enters darkness, they use the word that he has entered darkness; when a person enters the boundaries of Tihamah, they use the word that he has entered the boundaries of Tihamah. By this, he meant that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was within the boundaries of the Haram. This does not mean that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was also wearing the Ihram at that time. And the evidence for the correctness of this interpretation is those narrations which we have already mentioned, and the narration which creates distinction between the two is coming ahead.
