Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When she came to Madinah Munawwarah, she informed the people that she was the daughter of Umayyah bin Mughirah. The people did not accept her statement. They began to say: What a strange and astonishing falsehood this is. Then, when some of those people intended to go for Hajj, they said: Will you write a letter to your family? So I wrote a letter and gave it to those people. When they returned, they confirmed the statement of Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and thus her honor and respect increased.
Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When Zainab was born to me, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me and proposed marriage to me. I said: A woman like me cannot be married, because I am no longer able to bear children, and I have a bit of a sharp temperament, and I am also a mother of children. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I am older than you in age. As for the sharpness of temperament, Allah the Exalted will remove it. As for the children, they are entrusted to Allah and His Messenger. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) married her.
The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I will come to you tonight. Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I took out some barley grains from my pouch and some fat, and I prepared it for the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) spent the night there. In the morning, he said: You hold an honorable position with your husband. If you wish, I will stay with you for seven days. If I stay with you for seven days, I will also stay with my other wives for seven days each.
Hadith 4066
Aamir bin Abdullah (from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair, may Allah be pleased with him) narrates the statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Announce the marriage." The Sheikh explains: The words of the narration "You people announce" mean: (perform the offer and acceptance) in the presence of two just witnesses.
