What the Prophet (peace be upon him) served at the wedding with Zaynab bint Jahsh
Hadith 4062
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " أَوْلَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَوْسَعَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ خُبْزًا ، وَلَحْمًا ، كَمَا كَانَ يَصْنَعُ إِذَا تَزَوَّجَ ، فَأَتَى حُجْرَ أُمِّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِنَّ وَيَدْعُونَ لَهُ ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ ، فَلَمَّا انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى الْبَيْتِ إِذَا رَجُلانِ يَذْكُرَانِ بَيْنَهُمَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْبَيْتِ ، فَلَمَّا أَبْصَرَهُمَا وَلَّى رَاجِعًا ، وَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ آيَةَ الْحِجَابِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) held a wedding feast (walimah). He made ample arrangements of bread and meat for the Muslims, just as he used to do after getting married. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to the Mothers of the Believers, greeted them with peace, and prayed for their well-being. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned, and I was with him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the house of his new noble wife, there were two men sitting in a corner of the house, talking to each other. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them, he turned back and left. (On this occasion) Allah Almighty revealed the verse regarding the command of hijab.
