Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) took the people of Banu Mustaliq as captives, and Juwayriya bint al-Harith came into the share of Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him), or perhaps into the share of the cousin of Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him). She made a contract of emancipation (mukataba) with him. She was a beautiful woman; whoever saw her would become captivated by her. She came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to seek help regarding her contract of emancipation. By Allah! She had just reached the door of the chamber when I saw her, and I disliked her, because I realized that just as she appeared beautiful to me, she would also appear so to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Juwayriya said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! The situation is as you know. I have made a contract of emancipation for myself, so I have come to seek help from the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Will you not choose something better than that? She asked: What is that? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: I will marry you and pay the amount of your contract on your behalf. She said: That is fine. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Then I will do so.
When the Muslims heard of this, they said: These people have become the in-laws of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), so they freed all the captives of Banu Mustaliq who were with them. Because of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) marriage, one hundred families of Banu Mustaliq were set free.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: To my knowledge, there is no woman who proved to be a greater blessing for her people than Lady Juwayriya (may Allah be pleased with her).
