Hadith 4040
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي حَيْوَةُ ، أَنَّ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ أَبِي الْوَلِيدِ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ أَيُّوبَ بْنَ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الأَنْصَارِيَّ ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " اكْتُمِ الْخِطْبَةَ ، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأْ فَأَحْسِنْ وضُوءَكَ ، ثُمَّ صَلِّ مَا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَكَ ، ثُمَّ احْمَدْ رَبَّكَ وَمَجِّدْهُ ، ثُمَّ قُلْ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلا أَقْدِرُ ، وَتَعْلَمُ وَلا أَعْلَمُ ، وَأَنْتَ عَلامُ الْغُيُوبِ ، فَإِنْ رَأَيْتَ فِيَ فُلانَةِ وَتُسَمِّيهَا بِاسْمِهَا خَيْرًا لِي فِي دِينِي ، وَدُنْيَايَ ، وَآخِرَتِي فَاقْدُرْهَا لِي ، وَإِنْ كَانَ غَيْرُهَا خَيْرًا لِي مِنْهَا فِي دِينِي ، وَدُنْيَايَ ، وَآخِرَتِي فَاقْضِ لِي ذَلِكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Keep the proposal of marriage in mind, then perform ablution and do it well, then perform as much prayer as Allah has destined for you, then praise your Lord, mention His greatness, then make this supplication: "O Allah! Surely You have power and I do not have power, You have knowledge and I do not have knowledge, and You are the Knower of the unseen. If You know that such-and-such woman (the narrator says: here mention the name of the woman) is better for me in regard to my religion, my worldly life, and my Hereafter, then ordain her for me. And if someone else besides her is better for me in regard to my religion, my worldly life, and my Hereafter, then ordain her for me."
