Hadith 4025
Musa bin Salamah narrates: I and Sinan set out to perform ‘Umrah. Sinan took a sacrificial animal with him, which he was leading along. On the way, at a certain place, the animal was no longer able to walk ahead. So Sinan said: If we reach a town, we will inquire about this issue. The narrator says: The next day, we camped in the valley of Batha. He said: Let us go to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). So we went, and we mentioned the matter of his sacrificial animal before Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: You have asked a knowledgeable person. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent sixteen camels with a man. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed that man regarding them. The man went, then he returned and asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! If any of these animals becomes a burden for me (i.e., is unable to go further), what should I do? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sacrifice it, then dye its (necklace’s) sandals in its blood and mark its side with them. Do not eat its meat yourself, nor should any of your companions eat its meat.
