Chapter on Hajj and Umrah on Behalf of Others – On Permitting Hajj for One Unable to Perform It Himself Due to Old Age
Hadith 3994
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ بِبُسْتَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ ، لا يَسْتَطِيعُ الْحَجَّ ، أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ ؟ ، قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، حُجَّ مَكَانَ أَبِيكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! My father is an old, elderly man; he does not have the ability to perform Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes! Perform Hajj in place of your father.
