Chapter on Expiation – On Clarifying That the Prophet Commanded Ka’b ibn Ujrah to Offer the Expiation After Shaving His Head
Hadith 3980
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ السَّخْتِيَانِيُّ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ ، قَالَ : مَرَّ بِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ ، وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ لِي ، أَوْ تَحْتَ بُرْمَةٍ لِي ، وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَهَافَتُ عَلَى وَجْهِي ، فَقَالَ : " أَتُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ يَا كَعْبُ ؟ " ، قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَانْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً ، أَوْ صُمْ ثَلاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ، أَوْ أَطْعِمْ فَرَقًا بَيْنَ سِتَّةِ مَسَاكِينَ " .
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: During Hudaybiyyah, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me while I was lighting a fire under my cooking pot (the narrator is unsure about one word here), and lice were falling on my face. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Ka'b! Are the lice troubling you? I replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shave your head and offer a sacrifice, or fast for three days, or feed six needy people one sa' (measure) each.
Hadith 3981
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ فِي عَقِبِهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مِثْلَهُ إِلا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " اذْبَحْ شَاةً " .
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah narrates a similar narration from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): however, in this narration, the words are: "You should slaughter a goat."
