Shaving and Sacrifice – On Clarifying That One Should Start with the Right Side of the Head When Shaving
Hadith 3879
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْعَدَنِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَسَّانَ يُخْبِرُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا رَمَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْجَمْرَةَ ، وَنَحَرَ نُسُكَهُ نَاوَلَ الْحَلاقَ شِقَّهُ الأَيْمَنَ فَحَلَقَهُ ، ثُمَّ نَاوَلَ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ الأَنْصَارِيَّ فَأَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ ، ثُمَّ نَاوَلَهُ الشِّقَّ الأَيْسَرَ ، فَقَالَ : أَحْلِقْهُ ، فَحَلَقَهُ ، فَأَعْطَاهُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ ، وَقَالَ : اقْسِمْهُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the stoning of the Jamrah and sacrificed his sacrificial animal. Then he extended the right side of his head to the barber, who shaved it. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave the hair to Sayyiduna Abu Talhah Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he extended the other side to the barber and said: "Shave it." So he shaved it, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave that hair also to Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Distribute it among the people."
