Ibn Hibban

Muharrir bin Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father: I was making an announcement regarding the polytheists along with Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyiduna Ali’s (may Allah be pleased with him) voice became hoarse and his throat started to hurt and he was no longer able to make the announcement in a loud voice, I began to make the announcement in his place. The narrator says: I asked my father, “What announcement did you people make?” So Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: We were saying, “After this year, no polytheist will perform Hajj,” so after that year, no polytheist performed Hajj, “and no naked person will circumambulate the House of Allah, and only a believer will enter Paradise. And whoever has a treaty with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for a certain period, its duration is four months. When four months have passed, then Allah and His Messenger are free from obligations to the polytheists.” So the polytheists, mocking this, were saying: “No, one month is enough.”
