Entering Mecca - The reason why the people limited the rebuilding of the Kaaba to the foundations of Ibrahim
Hadith 3816
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الذُّهْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ يَزِيدَ بْنَ رُومَانَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهَا : " يَا عَائِشَةُ لَوْلا أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِالْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، لَهَدَمْتُ الْبَيْتَ حَتَّى أُدْخِلَ فِيهِ مَا أَخْرَجُوا مِنْهُ فِي الْحِجْرِ ، فَإِنَّهُمْ عَجَزُوا عَنْ نَفَقَتِهِ ، وَأَلْصَقْتُهُ بِالأَرْضِ ، وَوَضَعْتُهُ عَلَى أَسَاسِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ بَابَيْنِ ، بَابًا شَرْقِيًّا ، وَبَابًا غَرْبِيًّا " ، قَالَ : فَكَانَ هَذَا الَّذِي دَعَا ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ إِلَى هَدْمِهِ وَبِنَائِهِ .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: O Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), if your people had not recently left the Age of Ignorance, I would have had the House of Allah (the Ka'bah) demolished and included in it the part that they had left out, which is the Hatim. Their funds had run short, so they joined it with the ground, and I would have rebuilt it according to the foundations of our master Ibrahim (peace be upon him). I would have made two doors for it: one door on the eastern side and one on the western side. The narrator states: For this reason, Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) had it demolished and rebuilt.
Hadith 3817
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ سَأَلَ الأَسْوَدَ ، وَكَانَ يَأْتِي عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، وَكَانَتْ تُفْضِي إِلَيْهِ ، قَالَ الأَسْوَدُ : قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْلا أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، لَهَدَمْتُ الْكَعْبَةَ ، وَجَعَلْتُ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ " ، فَهَدَمَهُ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، وَجَعَلَ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ .
Aswad reports: Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked Aswad—he used to visit Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and she showed him special affection. Aswad narrated: Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) informed that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If your people had not recently left the Age of Ignorance, I would have demolished the Ka'bah and built two doors for it." The narrator says: That is why Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) had it demolished and built two doors for it.
