Hadith 3811
أَخْبَرَنَا
الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا
حِبَّانُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا
عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ
فِطْرٍ ، عَنْ
أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، إِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَمَلَ ، وَأَنَّهُ سَنَةٌ ، فَقَالَ : صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا ، قَدْ رَمَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَيْسَ بِسُنَّةٍ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى قُعَيْقِعَانَ ، وَقَدْ تَحَدَّثُوا : أَنَّ بِصَحَابَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُزَالا وَجَهْدًا ، فَأَمَرَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا لِيُرِيَهُمْ أَنَّ بِهِمْ قُوَّةً " .
Abu Tufail narrates: I presented myself before Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). I said: O Ibn Abbas, individuals from your people state: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ramal and it is a Sunnah. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: They have stated some things correctly and some things incorrectly. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did perform ramal, but it is not a Sunnah. Then he explained that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came (to Makkah Mukarramah), the polytheists were sitting at the place of Qaiqan and were talking in a mocking manner about the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the companions to perform ramal, so that they could show their strength to those people.
Hadith 3812

الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا
يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الطُّفَيْلِ ، فَقُلْتُ : الأَطْرَافُ الثَّلاثَةُ الَّتِي تُسْنَدُ بِالْكَعْبَةِ ؟ ، قَالَ
أَبُو الطُّفَيْلِ : سَأَلْتُ
ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْهَا ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا نَزَلَ مَرَّ الظَّهْرَانِ فِي صُلْحِ قُرَيْشٍ ، بَلَغَ أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ قُرَيْشًا كَانَتْ ، تَقُولُ : تُبَايعُونَ ضُعَفَاءَ ؛ قَالَ أَصْحَابُهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَوْ أَكَلْنَا مِنْ ظَهْرِنَا ، فَأَكَلْنَا مِنْ شُحُومِهَا ، وَحَسَوْنَا مِنَ الْمَرَقِ ، فَأَصْبَحْنَا غَدًا حَتَّى نَدْخُلَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ ، وَبِنَا جِمَامٌ ، قَالَ : " لا وَلَكِنِ ائْتُونِي بِفَضْلِ أَزْوَادِكُمْ " ، فَبَسَطُوا أَنْطَاعَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ جَمَعُوا عَلَيْهَا مِنْ أَطْعِمَاتِهِمْ كُلَّهَا ، فَدَعَا لَهُمْ فِيهَا بِالْبَرَكَةِ ، فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى تَضَلَّعُوا شِبَعًا ، فَأَكْفَتُوا فِي جُرَبِهِمْ فُضُولَ مَا فَضَلَ مِنْهَا ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى قُرَيْشٍ ، وَاجْتَمَعَتْ قُرَيْشٌ نَحْوَ الْحَجَرِ ، اضْطَبَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لأَصْحَابِهِ : " لا يَرَى الْقَوْمُ فِيكُمْ غَمِيزَةً " ، وَاسْتَلَمَ الرُّكْنَ الْيَمَانِيَ ، وَتَغَيَّبَتْ قُرَيْشٌ ، مَشَى هُوَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ حَتَّى اسْتَلَمُوا الرُّكْنَ الأَسْوَدَ ، فَطَافَ ثَلاثَةَ أَطْوَافٍ ، فَلِذَلِكَ تَقُولُ قُرَيْشٌ وَهُمْ يَمُرُّونَ بِهِمْ يَرْمُلُونَ : لَكَأَنَّهُمُ الْغِزْلانُ ، قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : وَكَانَتْ سُنَّةً .
Ibn Khuthaym narrates: I asked Abu Tufayl: I said, those three sides against which one leans with the Ka'bah, so Abu Tufayl informed: I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas about this: so he informed: On the occasion of the treaty with the Quraysh, when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) camped at the place of Maraz-Zuhr, the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to know that the Quraysh were saying: You people have made a treaty with the weak ones. So the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! If we eat the meat of our sacrificial animals and eat their fat and drink its broth (then strength will come into our bodies), so tomorrow morning we will enter Makkah and at that time we will appear strong. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: No, rather bring what is left from your provisions of the journey. Then the people spread their dining cloths and gathered all their food items on it. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed for blessing upon those things, so they ate it, and their stomachs were filled. They put the remaining things into their bags. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) came before the Quraysh, the Quraysh were gathered in front of the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad). The Prophet (peace be upon him) wrapped his garment as in idtiba‘, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to his companions: These people should not see any weakness in you. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed istilam of the Yemeni Corner (Rukn Yamani). At that time the Quraysh moved to the other side (i.e., they were not visible). The Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions walked at a normal pace until they performed istilam of the Black Stone (then they would start running). So the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed three circuits in this manner; these people would pass by the Quraysh running, so the Quraysh would say: They are running like deer. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says, so this is Sunnah.
