Virtues of Medina - Allah commanded His chosen Prophet (peace be upon him) to pray for the people of al-Baqi’
Hadith 3748
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ أَنَّهَا ، قَالَتْ : سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ ، تَقُولُ : قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ ، فَلَبِسَ ثِيَابَهُ ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ ، قَالَتْ : فَأَمَرْتُ بَرِيرَةَ جَارِيَتِي تَتْبَعُهُ ، فَتَبِعَتْهُ حَتَّى جَاءَ الْبَقِيعُ ، فَوَقَفَ فِي أَدْنَاهُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقِفَ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ ، فَسَبَقَتْهُ بَرِيرَةُ ، فَأَخْبَرَتْنِي ، فَلَمْ أَذْكُرْ لَهُ شَيْئًا حَتَّى أَصْبَحْتُ ، ثُمَّ إِنِّي ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنِّي بُعِثْتُ لأَهْلِ الْبَقِيعِ لأُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِمْ " .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: One night the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) got up, put on his clothes (i.e., wrapped his cloak), and went outside. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I instructed my maid Barirah to follow the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so she went after him. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Baqi‘ and stayed there for as long as Allah willed. Then he returned, and Barirah arrived before him. She informed me, but I did not mention anything to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) until morning came. Then I mentioned this matter to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: “I was sent to the people of Baqi‘ so that I may supplicate for mercy for them.”
