Hadith 3724
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) developed a fever. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I went to them. I asked: Father, how are you? O Bilal, how are you? Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had a fever, he would recite this verse: "Every person wakes up among his family, while death is closer to him than the strap of his sandal." When Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), may Allah have mercy on him, was very unwell, he would recite loudly: "Alas! Will I ever spend a night in that valley where around me will be Idhkhir and Jalil (specific grasses of Makkah)? Will I ever reach the water of Majannah one day? Will Shamah and Tufail (names of mountains) ever appear before me?" Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and informed him about this, so he prayed: "O Allah! Make Madinah as beloved to us as You made Makkah beloved to us, or even more beloved, and make it healthy for us, and bless us in its Sa’ and its Mudd, and transfer its fever away from here, transfer it to Hajfah." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:): The reason the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) prayed for the fever to be transferred to Hajfah is: In those days, Hajfah was a settlement of the Jews. There was no Muslim there. That is why the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Transfer its fever to Hajfah."
