I’tikaf and Laylat al-Qadr - The reason why the Prophet (peace be upon him) forgot the exact night of Laylat al-Qadr
Hadith 3679
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : خَرَجَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيُخْبِرَنَا بِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ ، فَتَلاحَى رَجُلانِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ، فَقَالَ : " خَرَجْتُ لأُخْبِرَكُمْ بِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ ، فَتَلاحَى فُلانٌ وَفُلانٌ ، فَرُفِعَتْ ، وَعَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرًا لَكُمْ ، فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي التَّاسِعَةِ وَالسَّابِعَةِ وَالْخَامِسَةِ " .
Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came to inform us about Laylat al-Qadr. Two Muslims had a dispute. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I came to inform you about Laylat al-Qadr, but so-and-so and so-and-so had a dispute, so its knowledge was taken away. Perhaps this is better for you. Seek it in the ninth, seventh, or fifth night.
