Voluntary Fasting - The Prophet’s (peace be upon him) diligence in fasting Mondays and Thursdays
Hadith 3643
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُعَافَى الْعَابِدُ ، بِصَيْدَا ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحِيَى بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَوْرُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ الْغَازِ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ صِيَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ يَصُومُ شَعْبَانَ كُلَّهُ حَتَّى يَصِلَهُ بِرَمَضَانَ ، وَكَانَ يَتَحَرَّى صِيَامَ الإِثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسِ " .
Rabi’ah bin Ghaz reports: He asked Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) observing (voluntary) fasting: So Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to fast for almost the entire month of Sha’ban, to the extent that he would join it with Ramadan, but he would especially observe fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.
