Chapter on Voluntary Fasting - Refuting the claim that only Umar ibn Thabit narrated this report from Abu Ayyub
Hadith 3635
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الُوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحِيَى بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الذِّمَارِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَسْمَاءَ الرَّحَبِيِّ ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ ، وَسِتًّا مِنْ شَوَّالٍ ، فَقَدْ صَامَ السَّنَةَ " .
Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the freed slave of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever fasts the fasts of Ramadan and then fasts six days of Shawwal, it is as if he has fasted for the whole year."
