Chapter on Voluntary Fasting - Command to fast part of Ashura for those who missed fasting the whole day
Hadith 3619
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الأَكُوَعِ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ رَجُلا مِنْ أَسْلَمَ يُؤَذِّنُ فِي النَّاسِ : " أَنَّ الِيَوْمَ يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ فَمَنْ أَكَلَ فَلا يَأْكُلْ شَيْئًا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَكَلَ وَشَرِبَ فَلِيَصُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a man from the tribe of Aslam to announce among the people: “Today is the day of Ashura. Whoever has eaten something should not eat anything for the rest of the day, and whoever has not eaten or drunk anything should observe the fast.”
