Section on Fasting the Day of Arafah - Recommending breaking the fast at Arafat to strengthen oneself for supplication
Hadith 3606
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ ، " أَنَّ نَاسًا تَمَارَوَا عِنْدَهَا يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : هُوَ صَائِمٌ ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : لَيْسَ بِصَائِمٍ ، فَأَرْسَلَتْ إِلَيْهِ أُمُّ الْفَضْلِ بِقَدَحِ لَبَنٍ وَهُوَ وَاقِفٌ عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ ، فَشَرِبَ " .
Sayyida Umm Fadl bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Some people, in her presence, differed regarding the fasting of the Prophet (peace be upon him) on the day of Arafah. Some people said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was fasting, while others said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was not fasting. So Sayyida Umm Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her) sent a bowl of milk to the Prophet (peace be upon him). At that time, he was standing on his camel, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) drank it.
