Section on Fasting the Day of Doubt - Warning against fasting the day of doubt, whether it is Sha’ban or Ramadan
Hadith 3596
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ صِلَةَ بْنِ زُفَرَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ فِي الِيَوْمِ الَّذِي يُشَكُّ فِيهِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ ، فَأُتِيَ بِشَاةٍ ، فَتَنَحَّى بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ ، فَقَالَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ : " مَنْ صَامَ هَذَا الِيَوْمَ ، فَقَدْ عَصَى أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Sila bin Zufar narrates: We were present with Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) on a day about which there was doubt as to whether it was Ramadan or not. A goat was brought, so a person withdrew. Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever fasts on this day has disobeyed Sayyiduna Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him).
