Section on Fasting the Day of Doubt - A report that may mislead some into thinking it contradicts previous reports
Hadith 3589
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُصْعَبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحِيَى بْنُ حَكِيمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ حَبِيبِ بْنِ نُدْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا كَانَ النِّصْفُ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ ، فَأَفْطِرُوا حَتَّى يَجِيءَ رَمَضَانُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When half of Sha'ban has passed, then stop fasting until Ramadan comes."
