Section on Fasting the Day of Doubt - A report that may mislead some into thinking it contradicts the discouraged act
Hadith 3587
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ السَّامِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ أَوْ لِرَجُلٍ : " أَصُمْتَ مِنْ سَرَرِ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ شَيْئًا ؟ " ، قَالَ : لا ، قَالَ : " فَإِذَا أَفْطَرْتَ فَصُمْ يَوْمًا أَوْ يَوْمَيْنِ " .
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, or perhaps to another person: Have you fasted any days from the end of this month? He replied: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you do not fast (any voluntary fasts) in a month, then fast one or two days.
