Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: "Do not observe continuous fasting (Saum Wisal)." The people said: "But you also observe continuous fasting." The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I am not like you. I am given food and drink." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:): This narration is evidence that all those narrations in which it is mentioned that the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, tied stones to his stomach are all false. The meaning is that the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, tied a waist-wrapper (tehband) there. It does not mean tying stones, and the word "hijz" refers to the end of the waist-wrapper. The reason is: Allah Almighty used to feed and give drink to His Messenger. When he used to observe continuous fasting, how could Allah Almighty leave him hungry at that time, when he had not even observed continuous fasting and needed to tie stones to his stomach, whereas stones cannot remove hunger.
