Chapter on Fasting While Traveling - Permitting a traveler to break the obligatory fast while traveling
Hadith 3564
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ، فَصَامَ حَتَّى بَلَغَ الْكَدِيدَ ، ثُمَّ أَفْطَرَ " ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَّبِعُونَ الأَحْدَثَ ، فَالأَحْدَثَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: On the occasion of the conquest of Makkah, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) set out during the month of Ramadan. He kept the fast until he reached Kadid, then he broke his fast. The narrator states: The companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to follow whatever happened after him.
