Chapter on Fasting While Traveling - Clarifying that both fasting and breaking the fast while traveling are permissible
Hadith 3562
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الُوَلِيدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : " خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِسَبْعَ عَشْرَةَ حِينَ فَتْحَ مَكَّةَ ، فَصَامَ صَائِمُونَ ، وَأَفْطَرَ مُفْطِرُونَ ، فَلَمْ يَعِبْ هَؤُلاءِ عَلَى هَؤُلاءِ ، وَلا هَؤُلاءِ عَلَى هَؤُلاءِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on the seventeenth of (the month of) Ramadan; this was the occasion when Makkah was conquered. Some people were fasting and some people were not fasting, and neither group objected to the other.
