Chapter on Fasting While Traveling - Another report confirming what was mentioned
Hadith 3554
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ مُضَرَ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ غَزِيَّةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ ، وَرَأَى نَاسًا مُجْتَمِعِينَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ ، فَسَأَلَ ، فَقَالُوا : رَجُلٌ جَهَدَهُ الصَّوْمُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَيْسَ مِنَ الْبِرِّ الصِّيَامُ فِي السَّفَرِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some people gathered around a man during a journey. He inquired about this, so the people informed him: Fasting is causing hardship for this man. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fasting during travel is not righteousness.
