Chapter on Expiation - If one required to fast two months for intercourse in Ramadan dies before doing so, it is made up on his behalf
Hadith 3530
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، وَسَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، وَمُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، وَمُجَاهِدٍ ، وَعَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ : إِنَّ أُخْتِي مَاتَتْ ، وَعَلَيْهَا صِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ ، قَالَ : " أَرَأَيْتِ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أُخْتِكِ دَيْنٌ ، أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَهُ ؟ " ، قَالَتْ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " فَحَقُّ اللَّهِ أَحَقُّ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A woman came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). She said: My sister has passed away. She was obligated to fast for two consecutive months. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: What do you think, if your sister had a debt, would you pay it off? She replied: Yes. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Then Allah’s right is more deserving (that it should be fulfilled).
