Chapter on Making Up Missed Fasts - Permitting a woman to delay making up missed obligatory fasts until Sha’ban
Hadith 3516
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْهَادِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : " إِنْ كَانَتْ إِحْدَانَا لَتُفْطِرُ فِي زَمَانِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمْ تَقْدِرْ أَنْ تَقْضِيَهُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ شَعْبَانُ ، مَا كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ فِي شَهْرٍ مَا كَانَ يَصُومُهُ فِي شَعْبَانَ ، كَانَ يَصُومُهُ إِلا قَلِيلا ، بَلْ كَانَ يَصُومُهُ كُلَّهُ " .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: During the blessed time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), if any one of us (the noble wives) had missed fasts, she would not be able to make them up with the Prophet (peace be upon him) until the month of Sha'ban arrived. The reason for this was that the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not fast in any other month as much as he fasted in Sha'ban. He would not fast only a few days of it; otherwise, he would fast the entire month.
