Chapter on Fasting While Junub - Clarifying that this permission was not exclusive to the Prophet
Hadith 3501
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ وَهْبِ بْنِ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ حَزْمٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي يُونُسَ مَوْلَى عَائِشَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، يُدْرِكُنِي الصُّبْحُ وَأَنَا جُنُبٌ ، فَأَصُومُ يَوْمِي ذَلِكَ ؟ فَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " رُبَّمَا أَدْرَكَنِي الصُّبْحُ وَأَنَا جُنُبٌ ، فَأَقُومُ ، وَأَغْتَسِلُ ، وَأُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ ، وَأَصُومُ يَوْمِي ذَلِكَ " ، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : إِنَّكَ لَسْتَ مِثْلَنَا ، إِنَّكَ قَدْ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ : " إِنِّي أَرْجُو أَنْ أَكُونَ أَخْشَاكُمْ لِلَّهِ ، وَأَعْلَمَكُمْ بِمَا أَتَّقِي " .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Sometimes in the morning I am in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), so can I fast on that day? (Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, narrates) I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Sometimes I also am in a state of major ritual impurity at the time of true dawn, then I get up, perform ghusl (ritual bath), offer the morning prayer, and fast on that day. The man said: You are not like us. Allah Almighty has forgiven your past and future sins. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I hope that I am the most God-fearing among you and the most knowledgeable about what is piety.
