Chapter on Fasting While Junub - Clarifying that one may bathe after dawn with the intention to fast
Hadith 3496
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهِبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : أَخْبَرَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ ، وَأُمُّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَا النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُدْرِكُهُ الْفَجْرُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ ، ثُمَّ يَغْتَسِلُ وَيَصُومُ " .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) and Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), who are the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrate: Sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would be in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) at the time of true dawn due to having been with his wife, but he would still perform ghusl (ritual bath) and observe the fast.
Hadith 3497
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يَحِيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، عَنْ عِرَاكِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ حُلُمٍ ، ثُمَّ يَصُومُ ذَلِكَ الِيَوْمَ " .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) (sometimes) would be in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) at the time of true dawn without having had a wet dream, but even then he would fast on that day.
