Chapter on Fasting While Junub - Clarifying that “he wakes up junub then fasts” means after bathing
Hadith 3487
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهِبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، أَنَّهَ قَالَ : أَخْبَرَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ ، وَأُمُّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَتَا النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُدْرِكُهُ الْفَجْرُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ ، ثُمَّ يَغْتَسِلُ وَيَصُومُ " .
Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman narrates: Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) and Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), these are the pure wives of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They informed me that sometimes the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would be in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) at the time of true dawn due to having been with his wife, then he would perform ghusl (ritual bath) and observe the fast.
