Chapter on Suhoor - Stating that the white thread is the horizontal dawn on the horizon
Hadith 3462
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حُصَيْنٌ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَدِيُّ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَا نَزَلَتْ : وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الأَسْوَدِ سورة البقرة آية 187 ، قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ بَيَاضُ النَّهَارِ وَسَوَادُ اللَّيْلِ " .
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When this verse was revealed, "You may eat and drink until the white thread becomes distinct to you from the black thread," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What is meant by this is the whiteness of the day and the darkness of the night.
