Chapter on Sighting the Crescent - Stating that the month can sometimes be twenty-nine days
Hadith 3454
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الُوَلِيدِ ، وَالْحَوْضِيُّ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي جَبَلَةُ بْنُ سُحَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الشَّهْرَ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا " ، وَخَنَسَ الإِبْهَامَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A month is such and such." The third time, he folded his thumb.
