Chapter on the Virtue of Ramadan - Recommending generosity and giving to Muslims in Ramadan following the Prophet’s example
Hadith 3440
أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْمُقْرِئُ ، بِوَاسِطَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الطَّحَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَجُوَدَ النَّاسِ بِالْخَيْرِ ، وَكَانَ أَجُوَدَ مَا يَكُونُ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ، إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ كَانَ يَلْقَاهُ فِي كُلِّ لَيْلَةٍ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ حَتَّى يَنْسَلِخَ ، يَعْرِضُ عَلَيْهِ الْقُرْآنَ ، فَإِذَا لَقِيَهُ جِبْرِيلُ كَانَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَجُوَدَ بِالْخَيْرِ مِنَ الرِّيحِ الْمُرْسَلَةِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most generous of all people in doing good. In the month of Ramadan, he (peace be upon him) would become even more generous. Every night of Ramadan, Jibreel (peace be upon him) would come to him (peace be upon him), and would continue to come throughout the month. He (Jibreel) would review the Qur'an with him (peace be upon him). When Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) would come to him (peace be upon him), the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would be more generous in doing good than the blowing wind.
