Chapter on the Virtue of Fasting - Angels seeking forgiveness for the fasting person when others eat with him until they finish
Hadith 3430
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مَوْلاةً لَنَا يُقَالُ لَهَا : لَيْلَى ، تُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أُمِّ عُمَارَةَ بِنْتِ كَعْبٍ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا ، فَدَعَتْ لَهُ بِطَعَامٍ ، فَقَالَ : " تَعَالَيْ فَكُلِي " ، فَقَالَتْ : إِنِّي صَائِمَةٌ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ الصَّائِمَ إِذَا أُكِلَ عِنْدَهُ صَلَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الْمَلائِكَةُ " .
Habib bin Zaid Ansari narrates: We heard our slave girl Layla relating from Sayyida Umm Ammarah bint Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to her house. She had invited the Prophet (peace be upon him) for a meal. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You also come forward and eat. She submitted: I am fasting. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: As long as food is being eaten in the presence of a fasting person, the angels continue to pray for mercy for that fasting person.
