Chapter: Virtue of Fasting – Clarifying That the Breath of the Fasting Person May Also Be More Pleasant Than Musk in This World
Hadith 3424
أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، بِحَرَّانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ ذَكُوَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " كُلُّ حَسَنَةٍ يَعْمَلُهَا ابْنُ آدَمَ بِعَشْرِ حَسَنَاتٍ إِلَى سَبْعِ مِائَةِ ضِعْفٍ ، يَقُولُ اللَّهُ : إِلا الصَّوْمَ ، فَهُوَ لِي وَأَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ ، يَدَعُ الطَّعَامَ مِنْ أَجْلِي ، وَالشَّرَابَ مِنْ أَجْلِي ، وَشَهُوَتَهُ مِنْ أَجْلِي ، وَأَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ ، وَلِلصَّائِمِ فَرْحَتَانِ : فَرْحَةٌ حِينَ يُفْطِرُ ، وَفَرْحَةٌ حِينَ يَلْقَى رَبَّهُ ، وَلَخُلُوفِ فَمِ الصَّائِمِ حِينَ يَخْلُفُ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ أَطِيَبُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ رِيحِ الْمِسْكِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever good deed the son of Adam does, its reward is multiplied from ten times up to seven hundred times. Allah Almighty says: Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will give its reward. He leaves his food for My sake, he leaves his drink for My sake, he leaves his desires for My sake, so I will give its reward. The fasting person will have two joys: one joy at the time of breaking his fast, and one joy when he meets his Lord. The smell from the mouth of the fasting person, which comes due to leaving food, is purer with Allah than the fragrance of musk."
