Hadith 3376
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا وَائِلٍ ، يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْبَدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا نَتَحَامَلُ ، فَكَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَجِيءُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ ، فَيُقَالُ : هَذَا مُرَاءٍ ، وَيَجِيءُ الرَّجُلُ بِنِصْفِ الصَّاعِ ، فَيُقَالُ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ لِغَنِيٌّ عَنْ هَذَا ، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ : الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ سورة التوبة آية 79 .
Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We used to carry loads, then when someone would bring something to give in charity, it would be said: He has done this for show. If someone brought half a sa’, it would be said: Allah is independent of this. So regarding this, the verse was revealed: "Those who criticize the believers concerning the charities they give."
