Voluntary Charity – Ordering to Place Charity Directly in the Hand of the Needy
Hadith 3373
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثٌ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ بُجَيْدٍ ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ أُمِّ بُجَيْدٍ ، وَكَانَتْ مِمَّنْ بَايَعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ الْمِسْكِينَ لَيَقُومُ عَلَى بَابِي فَمَا أَجِدُ لَهُ شَيْئًا أُعْطِيهِ إِيَّاهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنْ لَمْ تَجِدِي لَهُ شَيْئًا تُعْطِينَهُ إِيَّاهُ إِلا ظِلْفًا مُحْرَقًا ، فَادْفَعِيهِ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَدِهِ " .
Lady Umm Bujayd (may Allah be pleased with her), who was among the women who accepted Islam at the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace be upon him), it is narrated about her: She submitted to the Prophet (peace be upon him): O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Sometimes a poor person stands at my door and I do not find anything to give him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If you do not find anything to give him except a burnt hoof, then give that into his hand.
