Voluntary Charity – Allah Loves Those Who Give Charity or Pray at Night in Secret
Hadith 3349
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي ظَبِيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " ثَلاثَةٌ يُحِبُّهُمُ اللَّهُ ، وَثَلاثَةٌ يُبْغِضُهُمُ اللَّهُ ، أَمَّا الَّذِينَ يُحِبُّهُمُ اللَّهُ : فَرَجُلٌ أَتَى قَوْمًا فَسَأَلَهُمْ بِاللَّهِ وَلَمْ يَسْأَلْهُمْ بِقَرَابَةٍ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَهُ ، فَتَخَلَّفَ رَجُلٌ بِأَعْقَابِهِمْ ، فَأَعْطَاهُ سِرًّا لا يَعْلَمُ بِعَطِيَّتِهِ إِلا اللَّهُ وَالَّذِي أَعْطَاهُ ، وَقَوْمٌ سَارُوا لَيْلَتَهُمْ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ النَّوْمُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِمَّا يَعْدِلُ بِهِ نَزَلُوا ، فَوَضَعُوا رُءُوسَهُمْ ، وَقَامَ يَتَمَلَّقُنِي وَيَتْلُو آيَاتِي ، وَرَجُلٌ كَانَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ ، فَلَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ فَهُزِمُوا ، وَأَقْبَلَ بِصَدْرِهِ يَقْتُلُ أَوْ يُفْتَحُ لَهُ ، وَثَلاثَةٌ يُبْغِضُهُمُ اللَّهُ : الشَّيْخُ الزَّانِي ، وَالْفَقِيرُ الْمُخْتَالُ ، وَالْغَنِيُّ الظَّلُومُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "There are three people whom Allah Almighty loves, and three people whom He dislikes. As for those whom Allah Almighty loves: one is the person who comes to some people and asks them for something in the name of Allah, not because of any kinship with them, then one of them turns back and secretly gives him something, such that no one knows about this gift except Allah Almighty and the one who gave it. The second are those people who travel throughout the night, until when they halt to rest, sleep is dearest to them, and they lay down to sleep, but one person stands up to seek My (i.e., Allah Almighty's) pleasure, recites My verses. And the third is the person who sets out on an expedition, faces the enemies, and when his companions retreat, he advances forward, and then either he is killed or Allah grants him victory. As for the three people whom Allah Almighty dislikes: one is an old adulterer, the second is a poor arrogant person, and the third is an oppressive wealthy person."
