Voluntary Charity – Clarifying That Charity of a Small Amount is Better Than a Large Amount from Abundant Wealth
Hadith 3347
أَخْبَرَنَا حَاجِبُ بْنُ أَرْكِينَ الْفَرْغَانِيُّ ، بِدِمَشْقَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفُوَانُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " سَبَقَ دِرْهَمٌ مِائَةَ أَلْفٍ " ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : وَكَيْفَ ذَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " رَجُلٌ لَهُ مَالٌ كَثِيرٌ أَخَذَ مِنْ عُرْضِهِ مِائَةَ أَلْفٍ ، فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهَا ، وَرَجُلٌ لَيْسَ لَهُ إِلا دِرْهَمَانِ ، فَأَخَذَ أَحَدَهُمَا ، فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sometimes one dirham surpasses one hundred thousand dirhams. A man asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How is that? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A person has a lot of wealth, so he takes one hundred thousand dirhams from his wealth and gives them in charity, and another person has only two dirhams, so he takes one of them and gives it in charity.
