Voluntary Charity – Clarifying That the Best Charity is Given from Surplus Wealth
Hadith 3345
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُوسَى بْنِ عَبْدَانَ ، بِعَسْكَرِ مُكْرَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ الْبَحْرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَفْضَلُ الصَّدَقَةِ مَا كَانَ عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى ، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best charity is that which is given when one is in a state of prosperity, and you should begin with those who are under your care."
