Voluntary Charity – Clarifying That Charity to Relatives Combines Charity and Family Ties
Hadith 3344
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ الرَّائِحِ بِنْتِ صُلَيْعٍ ، عَنْ سَلَمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الصَّدَقَةُ عَلَى الْمِسْكِينِ صَدَقَةٌ ، وَهِيَ عَلَى ذِي الرَّحِمِ اثْنَانِ : صَدَقَةٌ وَصِلَةٌ " .
Sayyiduna Salman bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Giving charity to a poor person is (simply) charity, and giving charity to a relative has two aspects: charity and maintaining the ties of kinship."
