Voluntary Charity – Clarifying That One Should Start with the Nearest Relatives in Charity
Hadith 3341
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَمَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَامِعِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، عَنْ طَارِقٍ الْمُحَارِبِيِّ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَائِمٌ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " يَدُ الْمُعْطِي الْعُلِيَا ، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ ، أُمَّكَ وَأَبَاكَ ، وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ ، ثُمَّ أَدْنَاكَ أَدْنَاكَ " .
Sayyiduna Tariq Muharibi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Then I came to Madinah Munawwarah, where the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing and addressing the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The giving hand is the upper hand, and you should begin (spending) with those under your care: your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, and then, step by step, the nearest of your relatives."
