Voluntary Charity – Recommending Muslims to Focus on the Hereafter and Give from This World
Hadith 3330
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَيُّكُمْ مَالُهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ مَالِ وَارِثِهِ ؟ " ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا مِنَّا أَحَدٌ إِلا مَالُهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ مَالِ وَارِثِهِ ، قَالَ : " اعْلَمُوا مَا تَقُولُونَ " ، قَالُوا : مَا نَعْلَمُ إِلا ذَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " مَا مِنْكُمْ رَجُلٌ إِلا مَالُ وَارِثِهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ مَالِهِ " ، قَالُوا : كَيْفَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا مَالُ أَحَدِكُمْ مَا قَدَّمَ ، وَمَالُ وَارِثِهِ مَا أَخَّرَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Which one of you is such that he loves his own wealth more than the wealth of his heir?" The people replied: "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Each one of us loves his own wealth more than the wealth of his heir." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "You should see what you are saying." The people replied: "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! This is what we think." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "For each one of you, the wealth of his heir is more beloved to him than his own wealth." The people asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), how is that?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The wealth of any one of you is that which he sends ahead (by giving in charity and good deeds), and the wealth of his heir is that which he leaves behind (after his death)."
