Chapter: Zakat al-Fitr – Ordering Zakat al-Fitr as a Sa’ of Dates or Barley
Hadith 3300
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الُوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ بِصَدَقَةِ الْفِطْرِ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ ، أَوْ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ " ، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ : فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ عِدْلَهُ مُدَّيْنِ مِنْ حِنْطَةٍ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the giving of one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of barley as zakat al-fitr. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) says: People considered two mudd of wheat to be equivalent to this.
