Chapter: Zakat al-Fitr – Ordering to Give Zakat al-Fitr Before Going to the Prayer Ground
Hadith 3299
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ فَارِسٍ الدَّلالُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ بِإِخْرَاجِ زَكَاةِ الْفِطْرِ أَنْ تُؤَدَّى قَبْلَ خُرُوجِ النَّاسِ ، وَأَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يُؤَدِّيهَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ بِيَوْمٍ أَوْ يَوْمَيْنِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يُعَجِّلُ الزَّكَاةَ قَبْلَ الْفِطْرِ بِيَوْمٍ أَوْ يَوْمَيْنِ ، وَيَسْتَقْبِلُ رَمَضَانَ بِصِيَامِ يَوْمٍ أَوْ يَوْمَيْنِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the payment of Sadaqat al-Fitr to be made before the people go out (for the Eid prayer). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) himself used to pay it one or two days before (Eid). (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:): Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to pay Sadaqat al-Fitr one or two days before Eid al-Fitr, and he used to begin fasting one or two days before the start of Ramadan.
