Hadith 3298
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ بِالطَّوَافِ ، مَنْ تَرُدُّهُ الأَكْلَةُ وَالأَكْلَتَانِ ، وَاللُّقْمَةُ وَاللُّقْمَتَانِ ، وَالتَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ ، وَلَكِنَّ الْمِسْكِينَ الَّذِي لا يَجِدُ غِنًى فَيُغْنِيهِ ، وَلا يَسْأَلُ النَّاسَ إِلْحَافًا ، وَيَسْتَحِيِي أَنْ يَسْأَلَ النَّاسَ إِلْحَافًا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The poor person is not the one who goes away with one or two items of food, or with one or two morsels, or with one or two dates. Rather, the poor person is the one who does not have enough to fulfill his needs, and yet he does not go around asking people persistently; he is too shy to ask people persistently."
