Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Zakat is not obligatory on a man's horse or slave, except that (for the slave) Sadaqat al-Fitr is obligatory." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:): This narration contains evidence that a slave does not own anything, because the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) made Sadaqat al-Fitr obligatory for the slave, but its payment is not obligatory upon him; rather, it is obligatory upon his owner.
