Chapter: Obligation of Zakat – Reports Explaining the Verse: Take Charity from Their Wealth to Purify and Sanctify Them
1 hadith
Hadith 3268
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Zakat is not obligatory on less than five camels, zakat is not obligatory on less than five awqiyah (of silver), and zakat is not obligatory on less than five wasq (of grain)." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:): This narration explains that in Allah Almighty's statement, "Take zakat from their wealth in order to purify and cleanse them," what is meant is some of the wealth. Because the word 'wealth' also applies to that which is less than five camels, five awqiyah of silver, or five wasq of grain, but the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has negated the obligation of zakat on less than this specified limit.
