Chapter: Greed and Its Related Matters – Warning Against Being Impatient for Provision and Not Seeking It Lawfully
Hadith 3239
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحِيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلالٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لا تَسْتَبْطِئُوا الرِّزْقَ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يَمُوتَ الْعَبْدُ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَهُ آخِرُ رِزْقٍ هُوَ لَهُ ، فَأَجْمِلُوا فِي الطَّلَبِ : أَخَذِ الْحَلالِ ، وَتَرَكِ الْحَرَامِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Do not hasten towards sustenance, for a servant does not die until the last portion of his allotted sustenance reaches him. And in seeking it, be mindful to acquire what is lawful and leave what is unlawful."
